Austin Music Census

A summary report for the public has been prepared by Sound Music Cities and includes key findings and recommendations to guide immediate and longer-term strategies for the music community, municipal partners, and civic partners. Two appendices showcase responses: a data deck as well as a DEI data deep dive. All of the organizations involved in this initiative invite the community to embrace and work with this new dataset to develop ways forward that will continue to strengthen and build the greater Austin music ecosystem. Baltimore Music Census

The 2024 Baltimore Music Census was an anonymous, voluntary survey designed to capture key information about the local music scene. The goal of the initiative is to support local musicians, educators, venues, promoters, industry personnel, and non-profits by giving them important, up-to-date data about the city’s music ecosystem.  View here.

Chattanooga Music Census

The 2022 Chattanooga Music Census was a community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Chattanooga-area music community. The Census captured key information about the Chattanooga-area music economy aimed at helping the city and community to make more informed, data-driven decisions to support the music ecosystem. This initiative was led by ArtsBuild, City of Chattanooga, and Chattanooga Tourism Company, City of Chattanooga, through a grant from the Lyndhurst Foundation. The Census was administered by Sound Music Cities, a leading provider of music ecosystem studies and music census work.  View here.

Greater Cleveland Music Census

The Greater Cleveland Music Census is a community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Cleveland-area music community. The Census captured key information about the Cleveland music economy to help the city and community make more informed, data-driven decisions to support the music ecosystem.  View here.

Greater Greensboro Music Census

The Greater Greensboro Music Census is a community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Greensboro-area music community. Lawrence Music Census

The Lawrence Music Census is a community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the current music needs of the Lawrence, Kansas, community. This marks the first time that the music community will have new data from which to develop policy solutions and approaches. View here.

Minneapolis Music Census

The Minneapolis Music Census was a community-led initiative to learn more about the needs of the music ecosystem in our city. It aimed to gather important information about the music industry in Minneapolis to help the city and the community make more informed, data-driven decisions. View here.

Greater Nashville Music Census

The Greater Nashville Music Census is a grassroots not for profit initiative organized to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Nashville-area music community. The Census captured key information about our Nashville music economy in an effort to help the city and community make better informed, data-driven decisions to support our music ecosystem moving forward. The census received record-setting response, with 4,265 respondents taking the survey. View here.

New Orleans Music Census

The New Orleans Music Census was a community-led, anonymous survey of the complete network of individuals, businesses, and organizations related to music in New Orleans. By capturing data on both the living and working conditions of contributors to the local music industry, the census has provided data-driven insights to assist community leaders and policymakers in identifying and addressing challenges and opportunities facing the city's rich culture. NW Arkansas (Bentonville, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Siloam Springs) Music Census

The NWA Music Census is a community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the needs of our region's music ecosystem. The census captures key information that will lead to more informed, data-driven decisions that support the region's music community. View here.

Sacramento Music Census

The City of Sacramento has released the results of its Music Census and Regulatory Review, a survey to better understand the present lived experience of people in the music community and their contributions to the creative economy in the capital region. Nearly 1,400 people from the music community responded to the survey, which was open October through November 2022. View here.
